Praise From Someone you Admire

Why does it make you feel good when you get approval, recognition, or praise from people you admire?

In fact, why does it make you feel good when you get praise from anyone for that matter?

I think more than money what we creators are hungry for is appreciation, or a pat on the back. But why? Is it inherent in us or is it a conditioned instinct?

For eg., when a well-established photographer approves of a picture you clicked or a writer that you admire tells you that you write decent, it is bound to make you feel good, isn't it?

It's all about the perspective

Most of our instincts can be traced back to an evolutionary perspective- pleasure and pain, fight-or-flight, sex, procrastination, addictions, etc.

Somehow, I am inclined towards thinking that praise must also have its roots in how we, as human species, evolved over time.

Our ancestors 'needed' the praise maybe to get some trait passed down to the next generation.

I am sure some evolutionary psychologists have already figured it out. It's time I delved deep. I will let you know what I find out.

Meanwhile, it would be great if we could discuss it in the comments below. It would help us expand our mental horizons. What say?
